- The trout fly “Mallard and Claret” is probably one of the best known of Traditional Irish wet Flies.
- It is a very old pattern and although it represents nothing in particular it will take trout right through the season.
- It is very successful during the early season duckfly hatches, fished in the smaller sizes of #12 and #14 and later in the season fish the larger # 10 when sedges are about.It is a great point fly for salmon and seatrout in both river and lake fished in #10 and #8.
- This pattern is tied with jungle cock cheeks and with a body colour of Traditional Irish dubbing No. 14 Medium Claret . A “must have” pattern for the serious Lough fisherman.(See my large lake wet fly ranges)
