There are times, owing to certain light conditions, that the Mayfly appear darker as they hatch, sometimes almost a dark brown. Trout tend to ignore the more conventional coloured, olive and yellow patterns on these days. When this occurs, this pattern is super effective, the trout picking it out with confidence. It has proven itself well over the last few seasons on Arrow and the other Loughs.
