- This is the classic dressing of an old great pattern.
- It has been one of the staple patterns I have tied since the late 1970’s and is still as popular as ever.
- Generally fished on the point in sizes 8 or 10 it is as good a tail or point fly in a team of wets as any available.
- It is popular from early in the season and in smaller sizes and variants ( see Sooty Olive Biot and Sooty Olive JC, Sooty Olive Hairwing).
- It can be very good during the early spring olive hatches in a size 12.
- This fly body is tied with : Traditional Irish Dubbing No.3
