I first tied this pattern in the early 1980’s for Christy Wy e of Boyle Co Roscommon. Most Spent Gnat fly patterns had white bodies but Christy was looking for a Spent with a darker grey body. The fly that I tied for him proved to be a great success on Loughs Arrow, and Key. It is now also a great favourite on Lough Derg.
